joefdirtybiker  > Other > 2011 Dalton and Dempster motorcycle adventure
A picture journal of my trip to and on the James Dalton Highway to Prudhoe Bay, the Dempster Highway to Inuvik, and anywhere north of the Arctic Circle on June 21st - the summer solstice. My objectives was not the destinations but rather the experience and joy of riding the spectacular roads of Alaska, US and Yukon, Canada. This gallery showcases the ROADS that carried me on my adventure. 20 days, 6,700 miles

Start of every trip is the gear selection. Mine was to allow me to a) stay dry and warm through the rainy days and high mountain passes b) camp , camp cook, and repair my bike at remote locations, and c) to ride knobbies on the dirt roads especially on the Dalton and Dempster highways. Ya I know - it looks like a heavy load but my Wilbur custom suspension is designed to handle traveling loads and dirt roads.
The white fuel cell holds 1.3 gallons and is needed to extend my fuel range. The James Dalton highway has a 240 mile section and the Dempster highway has a 236 mile section between gas stops. Both sections are very close to the maximum range of my motorcycle so the fuel cell was nice to have.
Two 1 liter SIGG aluminum water bottles are to ensure I always have clean water for camp cooking and emergencies.
The front console shows a Garmin Zumo 660 GPS for me and a Spot GPS satellite messenger to tell others where I am.
1st leg of the trip was to just get up to the Yukon Territory and Watson Lake. My route up north will be via Prince George, over to Kitwanga, and up the Stewart-Cassiar Hwy which leads to the West side of the Yukon. 1st leg took me 2 1/2 days and 969 miles to reach it.

Kitwanga - a popular food / gas stop on this route.

Next - the ride up the Cassiar to reach Nugget City or Watson Lake for an over night stay.
